Slydigs have the ‘rock n roll formula’ thing down.
Take four guys from the north of England, add some catchy guitar riffs, some stylish sunglasses and a swagger to match, and you have yourselves a very marketable indie rock band.
While Slydigs may not have the most original recipe, there is something that elevates their music beyond the ‘heard-it-all-before-Oasis-copycats’ and that is their ability to write really, really good songs.
Their EP ‘Down With The Mockery’ reminds me of a slightly more upbeat BRMC and a less poppy Jet. The songs are catchy, fun and occasionally quite heartfelt, my favorite of these being Soul Ain’t Safe Round Here that’s beautifully simple.
The band were recently booked for The Great Escape in Brighton and had people pouring in off the streets into The Fishbowl to hear what all the ruckus was about, not surprising considering their music has had attention from the likes of the NME, BBC6 and even… Mr Paul Weller himself.
Slydigs have been around since 2008, so we know this band is in it for the long haul, and I think this time they might have just got that perfect formula to bring them more into the mainstream, and of course to remind us that rock n roll should be about decent songwriting: catchy, genuine and fun.
